Getting the Most Out of Internal Safety Audits

|
Few things are more frustrating to serious safety professionals than conducting an internal audit and seeing nothing change as a result.
Audits fall short of expectations for lots of reasons. Lack of management support for your recommendations. Poor execution of improvement plans – often because you don’t have the time to personally oversee every detail. And sloppy documentation – which means the same old problems keep getting flagged but never get fixed.
The question is what can you do to squeeze every bit of possible value out of the time and energy you put into audit activity? How can you be certain that audits – formal or informal, conducted by management or workers, facility-wide or departmental – deliver measurable results?
This audio conference program will answer those questions and more. Our expert speaker will offer techniques to make any audit program more robust and more valuable. You’ll also find out how to use the auditing process as a forum to sharpen other aspects of your safety program.

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Develop an auditing program that uses a systems approach so you're not constantly uncovering the same hazards again and again
- Establish metrics to help you accurately identify problem areas and focus your energy where you'll get the biggest payoff
- Utilize management system techniques to create more efficient audit checklists
- Understand how Root Cause analysis can be applied effectively to the auditing process
- Analyze results to make future audits more proactive and less reactive
- Double that value of internal audits by using them as training and coaching tools
- Ensure that corrective action lists are turned into real improvements – and what you can do to get your supervisors and front line workers to participate in the process
- Show supervisors and workers how to document audit findings the right way every time
- Present a business plan to management so they clearly see that the corrective actions you propose are worth the investment.
