Hazard Recognition Techniques: How to Spot, Assess and Manage Safety Risks

Accidents don’t just happen. Accidents occur when workers fail to recognize hazards or use bad judgment when they suspect a hazard exists.

The question for safety professionals is how do you get workers to spot, assess and control hazards – and bring them to everyone’s attention – before someone gets hurt?

Fact is, even in facilities with outstanding safety management systems, hazard recognition can be improved. Why, because hazard management is an ongoing process, not an event.

This audio conference program can help you put that process in place or improve the system you already have. It’s a must for safety professionals who believe in continuous improvement. Our expert speaker will introduce the key principles of hazard recognition and offer practical field techniques that can be applied during formal or informal walkthrough audits. To bring this presentation to life, ample pictures of real-world situations are used to illustrate and support the discussion.

Topics covered include:

  • The most significant challenges to hazard recognition – and how to overcome them
  • Four key principals of hazard recognition every manager, supervisor and worker should know
  • Primary causes of injuries and illnesses – and why they are so common
  • How to effectively use “out-of-view” audits to improve hazard recognition
  • Why it's essential to establish standards in hazard recognition
  • The three opportunities to recognize hazards that workers often miss
  • How to evaluate which techniques are most suitable for your workplace
  • How “the 10-second drill” can dramatically improve hazard recognition
  • The “three questions exercise” you can implement immediately to create a safer workplace.
