Dealing with Difficult Employees: What Every Safety Leader Should Know


If you ask most leaders what they like most about being a leader in their company, they talk about working with their employees. If you ask leaders what they find the most challenging about being a leader, they talk about working with their employees.

There are a special group of employees that make the job of being a leader the most challenging, these are the difficult employees. Difficult employees are not the same as poor performers, if they were poor performance and difficult the solution is very straight forward. Difficult employees meet their job obligations at least at the minimum requirement level, but tend to be a disruptive force in the group and are highly resistant to change. Additionally, these employees can be a time drain on the supervisor and cause them to question their own leadership capabilities.
